Here is a fascinating story, as first narrated in by Tom Peters, to keep in perspective. When a consortium of German banks sent out an RFP (Request for Proposal) to update their global card competitiveness, Verifone handled its Proposal differently. Verifone has offices in Redwood City, Tapei and London. To ensure the job got done, the three offices worked in tandem, such that when staff in Redwood City closed for the day they zapped the job to Tapei, which in turn zapped it to London at the end of their day, and which returned it to Redwood City after their day was over. Verifone submitted its Proposal before its competitors could even hold a meeting to decide their Proposal writing team. Needless to say, Verifone got the order, shocking even the German bankers and shaming competitors.
